Global Reforestation Initiative (GRI)

Many countries claim that as much as 60% of their forests have been completely destroyed in the last 40 years. The Agromicron, Ltd Global Reforestation Initiative was created to assist in the revitalization of damaged eco-systems, as a result of excessive deforestation, by creating a new type of tree that grows faster and is stronger than other tree kinds.

First, we want to be sure that the requirements of each climate zone are satisfied. Our ongoing research has proven that a blend of different trees promotes resistance to disease and parasites, and that certain tree types actually compliment each other's growth. Three to five different types, in varying ratios, give a natural and hearty forest base that allows for more variety in animal life.

Secondly, we will promote all new GRI projects as certified Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects under the guidelines of the Kyoto Protocol. A number of requirements must be satisfied to achieve this. Emissions Reductions Units (ERU's) are the tradable credits generated by CDM projects and must qualify and be accepted by one of several UN designees. This criterion serves to bolster the preservation of the forest. To qualify as tradable ERU's the host nation must agree to protect the new forest for a period of time, usually at least for 20 years. Of course, the potential profit from these new Carbon Credits makes these projects more attractive along with the benefit of an added carbon sink.
